Stopped at the beetle crossing

Dear Talepop,

Your beetles are in such a leisurely mood. They cross the trail slowly and carefully. If I stop to observe them they freeze for a momemnt then lift their backend in warning. I think these are stink beetles that use a stinky spray as a defense. The skunks of the inset world. But they have never actually sprayed me. So either they require exterme provocation or they aren't stink beetles. Some research is in order.
