Don't bug me

Dear Chesebro, You're beginning to bug me.

The Santa Ana winds are blowing this morning. Fortunately, it's a headwind on the way out with a tailwind on the way back, so I get to pick up the pace. But I saw something mysterious that I can't explain. Swarms of mosquitos are being blown crossways across the trail. They're hitting me in the face and the the legs. I can see them being blown by the wind across the trail. And I've seen beetles and earwigs and spiders crossing the trail in the same wind swept direction. But the mosquitos are mystifying. They're wooshing through the air. I try to breathe through my nose to avoid getting them in my mouth. But I relax after five or six miles and end up getting one in the mouth. Where are they coming from? We have a severe drought in Los Angeles and there's no water in the creek, which is downwind anyway. I think they're coming from the giant garbage dump which is upwind and uphill just over the ridge. They use water trucks to spray water over the freshly covered garbage. I've seen this when I ride my mountain bike around the ridge. It's an awesome and depressing sight. Mountains of garbage in a field of dirt and giant trucks spraying water and tractors packing down the earth. Seagulls fly over the dump swooping and diving. It makes me think twice every time I throw something in the garbage or even in the recycling bin. Where does all this junk go? Time to watch the movie Wall-e again.
