It's a jungle out there.

Dear Makawao,

Even though I've passed this section many times before, today was different. It was raining and I could hear the heavy raindrops collecting and falling intermittently through your thick tree cover. It was a Jurassic Park moment, minus the aggressive, charging dinosaurs. When I dipped down in elevation and turned the bend on the west side, just before climbing into the dry part, I was presented with a long section of wild ginger. Ginger (as in the rhizome) with thick, bright green leaves that were sagging, but shiny, from the weight of the rain.
