Iron Horse Trail
Dear Iron Horse Trail,
You make people happy. Peple should be happy.
This reminds me....My Grandpa tells a story of when I was a young girl and was throwing rocks into the trunk of the car while we were at a lumber yard. My Gpa said stop. I kept throwing rocks. He said stop or I'm going to spank you. Yeah, right. I kept throwing rocks. We got into the car to go home and he said I'm going to spank you when we get home. I was terrified. I tried everything to convince him that spanking me was not a good idea. I had never been spanked in my long 5 years of life. I said I was sorry. He said it's too late, you're going to get spanked. I became desperate. I said Grandpa, people should be happy. He agreed. And then he spanked me. Apparently I screamed bloody murder. What a brat. My Grandpa has always been, and continues to be, a profoundly inspiring influence in my life. He is 93 and I see him every few weeks.
On this Independence Day run in Northern California on the Iron Horse Trail I greet everyone I see... from runners to cyclists to walkers. I'm greeted with high fives, thumbs up and happy smiles. This is a much better reception than I get running on trails in Los Angeles where fellow runners don't do much more than slightly wave. People should be happy. :)
