Adventure Run
Dear Point Dume,
You are adventurous.
I came by last week to see you for a quick trail to beach run, but today I had time for a much longer run. I started at Westward along the beach, past Sunset Restaurant and into the parking lot toward Point Dume. It was early in the morning and hardly anyone was out. There were a few RVs parked along the road and some surfers getting ready to go in. Once I reached Point Dume I climbed up to the trail. A person was sitting on the Point facing the ocean watching the sunrise.
As I swung around the point I could smell the seals (the smell of fish) and then see them on the rocks below the cliff. I headed for the stairs at Big Dume. I passed a model shoot with photographer, model and assisstant, and a girl bringing Starbucks coffee to the crew. Then I went down and up the rickety stairs. Some stairs have been reinforced with wood planks but most are eroded and rusted and some have gaping holes. The beach route toward Paradise Cove was not passable because of high tide so I turned around and headed back to Westward. By now lots of folks are out walking their dogs. I stopped by the car and took off my Skora Fit so I could run the beach barefoot. Great choice! Finished the run with a nice long 4 miles along Zuma beach in mostly hardpack sand. Just as I got back to Westward I saw a big seal on the beach. When I stopped to take his picture he headed back into the ocean.
Nature!
Then I headed over to Jill's to drop off the indoor plants and I saw a huge half rainbow. A beautiful morning. The perfect adventure run with beach, trail, stairs, seals and rainbows.
