Twin Falls

Dear Twin Falls,

Nice to meet you.

You are at the top of my list of Maui trail runs and so you have been top of mind for over a week now, but I wasn't sure how far the drive was. This morning I went to the recycle center in Haiku. I was going to drive back up the hill to my usual trail run at Makawao Forest, but I realized that the recycling center is acutally on the way to your trailhead. So I changed plans last minute and headed east on Hana Highway. I arrived at your trailhead about 7am, well before the tourists. The parking lot was empty except for one car with two road cyclists who were gearing up for their ride on the highway.

Your trail goes through private property. It is wide and flat and short. Really short. Super short. I thought it was 1.5 miles into the falls but it's 1.5 miles round trip. So, it was a great adventure with a nice reward, but not a repeat.

At the end of the trail are the remains of a concrete aqueduct and Twin Falls. It is really one wide waterfall that opens in the middle to create the appearance of two separate falls. It falls into a pool that is then diverted into two routes, one goes through the aqueduct and one flows freely.

Wailele Farms seems to be the main property owner and they have a fruit stand at the entrance to the trail.

This gets packed with tourists just about every day of the week, but I had the trail to myself at 7am on a Saturday. Thank you for a lovely, sweet adventure.
