Trail Signs for Kahakapao Plants

I never stop to look at the informational signs. Today I did because I wanted to read about my favorite native plant, the kupukupu fern. When I run through the fern forest single track I feel like I'm going to run into an elegant elf or a beautiful nymph. It's magical.

Kahili ginger is not listed...probably because it's not native, it's invasive and chokes out many more delicate natives. However, when it blooms it makes a stunning and fragrant display. It's also another favorite spot on this trail. The ginger forest flanks the sides of the river and it's always glistening with water droplets that sparkle in the filter rays of sunlight.
