CBD for Pets

Sandy is a beautiful, sweet cat who has seizures. They are not severe enough to put her on the strong, often debilitating anti-seizures drugs. CBD has been used extensively with pets to immediately reduce, and even eliminate seizures. We consulted a vet famous for his experience with CBD for pets. We determined her dose and then purchased CBD oil. Her seizures have reduced in severity.

After doing research, and speaking directly with the product formulator, we selected NanoPURE CBD Oil from CBDivaHealth in the following dose:

Dose Amount For Sandy By Weight

7.10 pounds = 3.22 kilograms

3.22 kilograms x 0.25mg = 0.805 mg

CBDiva NanoPURE

500 mg per bottle

10 mg = 20 drops

1 mg = 2 drops

Dose for Sandy is 2 drops twice per day

Here are our notes from the vet consultation:

CBD is preventative for seizures. We need to know Sandy’s weight to determine her dosage. We start with the minimum dose then increase as needed. CBD does not have bad side effects. At the worst, with an overdose a cat would be lethargic and tired. She needs it twice per day so it will protect her for 24 hours. Here is the formula:

1/4 of a milligram of CBD per kilogram of cat weight twice per day

So assuming a hypothetical 5 kg /10 pounds cat (this is more than Sandy) it would be 1.25 mg CBD twice per day.

It should be a CBD oil product (not tincture, which has alcohol) that is administered directly in her mouth (not with food) because she will absorb it much better through her mouth tissues directly.

Next steps are to:

Weigh Sandy (she was 7.10 pounds on her intake form)

Find a CBD oil that specifies exact mg per dose

Determine her dose and administer twice per day

CBD can also be used for cats with pain (end of life) and gastrointestinal problems like diarrhea. However, it is not proven useful for obstipation (damaged colon) or kidney disease.
